A Critical Approach to Sherman Alexie's Crow Testament.
A Critical Approach to Sherman Alexie's Crow Testament.
Crow Testament demonstrates a remarkable degree of structural sophistication. The focal point of the poem is the harsdship of the Native American in the hands of the white American settlers. This hardship suffered by the natives is the theme of Crow Testament. The poem consists of seven segments-but all these segments do not fall apart but adhere in a tightly integrated poem. It is the theme of hardships of the Native American which is gradually developed, unfolded from stanzas I to VII without padding.
SECOND, The Christian myth of Abel and Cain, the battle of Jerricho, sacrifice of Isaac, attainment of salvation, the Apocalypse-the End of the world which helps interweaving all the seven segments of Crow Testament into a unified whole.
THIRD, The theme of death is one of the important themes of the poem. The theme of death is stated in the first stanza, fourth, fifth and the last stanzas of the poem. It is stated in the murder of Abel by Cain, the battle of Jericho resulting in genocide, holocaust of the continuance of conflict in Gaza between Israel and Palestine and the end of the world as described in the Apocalypse and the theme of death also helps in the pile up of the stanzas into a synthetic whole.
